Dear Mother,
Well, I am in good old Blighty so you will not have to worry about me. You will be glad to know that I am not a very serious case. All I have is a ridge out of my left shoulder and two or three small pieces of shrapnel in my back. They don't bother me and I think they will let them work out.

The hospital I am in is at Reddish, near Manchester.
I have not had a chance to write before because we have been on the move all the time. I only expect to be here until tomorrow, so there is not much use of sending any mail here, but I will send you my next address as soon as I know it. I saw Brock at the end of August and

He was still jake, as usual. He was left out for a trip and felt pretty badly about it.
I got a German Automatic pistol the day before I got hit, and have it yet. I will manage to get it home somehow. It sure is a dandy little gun. You had better not send me more boxes because they may get lost and I won't need them anyway. I may send home for some money when I get my

ten days' leave.
When I was at the Field Ambulance on my way to C.C.S I saw George Savage. He ??? but on the knee, but I don't know if he got to Blighty or not.
Well, I have no more paper so will have to close. I will write as soon as I get a chance.

Love to all,
Melville.
P.S: This war will be over soon. I was hit at Ecourt St. Quentin.
