Arthur Melville "Porky" Munro writes to his mother, Jessie Munro. He tells her how happy he is with the recent influx of letters and parcels he's received, the friends from home he's seen on the front, and also tells her how he hopes the war will be over by the end of the year.

April. 10/18
Dear Mother,
Here I am back with the company at last. I was glad to get back to get my mail and believe me: I did get a bunch of it. There were about umpteen from you, and some from all the others in the family besides others. I also got umpteen boxes and have managed to keep that hungry feeling away. It feels good to get a bunch of mail when you have been without it for so long.
Most of the (blacked out) boys are over here now and I have seen quite a

few of them. I saw Flaxman, Harold Farmer, Durrant McGregor and quite a few more. I have not seen Gerald yet but will do so as soon as I get any kind of a chance. I am not up the line just a present but never know when I will go up. I think this year will see the end of the war. I sure will be glad to get home when it does finish and I won't care if I have to eat "dope" at every meal.
Well I will have to close now and get my supper. Some supper.
