Dear Mother,
I am sorry to have kept you so long without a letter but I really haven't had a chance to write until now. I got a letter from you a few days ago dated Sept. 23rd and yesterday I got one dated Oct. 14th and one from Edward dated Oct. 21st. He seems to be having quite a busy time just now. I get the Oakville

papers quite regularly and a box once in a while. There was a box of chocolate from Aunt Maggie a couple of days ago and a box of eats from Ray last night so I am not doing badly in that line. There is a letter from Bill here dated Oct. 12th, and one of yours dated Oct. 11th. I had them in another pocket and forgot about them.
We are out on rest now for a little

while. Our section is quartered in somebody's barn. To-day we had a bath and got some clean underwear. I was as lousy as a pet coon but hope to be rid of the things for a day or two. They don't bother you much in the daytime but they always give you a hot time when you are trying to get to sleep.
I haven't seen Brock yet, and don't even know where he is. I

hope to be able to see him soon. Howard French was shell shocked last trip in the line and Hubert Hunt was wounded. I met him coming out as I was going in. He had his his coat sleeve cut off and his arm was covered with blood. He had a smile on his face from ear to ear and said, "Hello Pork! I got a dandy!"
Things are looking

pretty well on this front just now. It is too bad that the Italians have had such a hard blow, but I guess they have the Germans stopped by this time. I think the war will be over soon anyway. That box from Mrs. Mitchell hasn't arrived yet. It must have got mixed up and put on the wrong train but I won't give up hopes of seeing it for a long time yet.
