Dear Bill, -
The Canadian mail has started again & I got 2 letters from Mother last night, 2 from you & one from Father as well some "news from Home" papers & the "Oakville Screams". So you are the fatted calf eh? How is Ikey's young brother hoofing it. Has he got teeth yet? can he hollar as loud as Bones? What colour is his hair & eyes? What are they going to call him? thats all the questions.
We are in the trenches & its a fine day. We dont need blankets any more. I just heard a band playing, a pipe band too. I guess the Germans can hear it as its quite plain. I guess they'll be scared when they hear the Highlanders are opposite them. We never hear any of their bands playing. I guess they know better than to come so close up.
I got a new Balmoral, new boots, new pants, new tunic, & new mess tin. All I need now is a new face & I'll be all right. We are to get our kilts soon if not sooner.
The other day I was working at the Engineers yard & on the way there saw a man & a woman & a boy hitched up to a heavy harrow & they were going over a big field harrowing it & another going along with a big bag sowing by hand. They are sure behind the times.
Tell Mother she might as well let Pork join now as in the late summer as he'll get the whole summer outside. Tell "Sigh" I hope he passes next trip.
I have been cooking this last 2 mornings for a squad & so far have'nt poisoned anyone. I get up before daylight & make the fire & then go to sleep again for a while.
I suppose you will soon be having more holidays. Well its time to get tea so will close for now. love to all
